11/1/06. Fairly new port, here we took an excursion to the Chacchoben Ruins, about 50 miles inland.

The back side of Templo 24.
A small raised platform near the temple. Probably used as a small stage of some sort.
A gum tree, you can see the scars in the bark where they have previously harvested the sap.
Making our way down the walkway which was something like a central street at one point.
This tree is taking over the smaller tree on the inside!

David the tour guide showing us the hand carved in the rocks.
A prickley tree, these were almost exactly the size and stiffness of toothpicks.
A tablet with some ancient writings.
A view from the top of this platform area where the temple was built.

Templo 1. I took my GPS reading from the little notch in the rock just past the first set of stairs.
This one was called Las Vasijas.
Another view of Templo 1.
When a little water is tossed on the rock, the original colors start to come through!
